i'm blaming it all on laziness, and the fact that i'd been given a container of the wipes when dave and i moved into our apartment last october.
they were also pure crap (i now wonder why i continued using them). our furniture would dry slightly sticky, and dog fur was drawn like a magnet to anything the wipes touched. so our furniture never looked clean. counter-productive, no?
all that said - i feel like a giant idiot, now that i know how easy it is to throw together your own dusting spray, and an even bigger idiot considering how freaking effective this homemade spray is. our coffee table still looks spotless, and that beast is constantly covered in dog fur, no matter how often i wipe it down.
you will need
1 cup white vinegar
3 cups warm water
1.5 teaspoons olive oil
1/4 teaspoon lemongrass essential oil
simply combine all the ingredients in a spray bottle, and remember to give the whole thing a little shake before each use (since the oils will separate from the vinegar and water).
i'd looked up a few other versions of homemade dusting spray, but they either seemed to contain way too much olive oil, or very little. i wanted my wood furniture (and other dusting surfaces) to have a subtle slip to them (to keep the collection of fur at bay), a touch of shine, and a pleasant, non-chemical scent.
mission accomplished, i'd say.
