DIY: simple oatmeal mask

by now i'm sure you're aware of my love for homemade skincare. i'm all about mixing up masks and exfoliants in my kitchen. and folks, this easy-peasy mask has to be one of my favourites.

now, this doesn't look like oatmeal. but it is. to be more precise: it's oat flour. using giant oat flakes, while maybe effective for some people, doesn't really do a whole lot in my books (or on my face). and grinding that shit up is exhausting (and time-consuming). so, i paid a little trip to my local bulk foods store, went straight to the flour section, and loaded up a baggie of oat flour. i strongly suggest you do the same. or by all means go and get yourself a really good mortar and pestle and give your arms a workout.

so, the mask.

you will need
2 tablespoons plain yoghurt (greek or regular work well)
2 tablespoons oat flour
2 teaspoons raw honey (manuka would be best, if you have it and can afford it)
optional: a couple of drops of lavendar oil (if your skin can tolerate it)

honestly, this feels oh-so-luxurious and creamy as you massage it onto your skin (plus the smell is pretty darn good). and the soothing powers (does that sound oxymoron-ish to anyone else?) of the oatmeal and honey provide an almost instant calm to any redness you may have.

even better? gently massaging the granules in circles as you rinse the mask off is great exfoliation.

best for: anyone with sensitive skin, redness, or post-acne hyperpigmentation. but really, this mask is good for anyone.
